Prius Helps Toyota Achieve Four Million Hybrid Milestone

Nearly fifteen years ago the Toyota Prius went on sale in Japan as the first mass-produced hybrid auto to grace the market. Today, the pioneering gas-electric has been joined by three siblings: the Prius v, Prius c, and Prius Plug-In. As innovative and popular as these hybrid vehicles are, however, they aren't the only ones.

For those who might not be aware, Toyota produces and sells a total of 18 hybrid passenger autos in 80 countries across the globe. With the combined strength of all these alternatively-powered vehicles, our favorite automaker was able to hit a remarkable milestone last month. By the end of April, Toyota announced global hybrid vehicle sales totaled four million units.

In case that number doesn't get you excited, company officials also note that 1.5 million of those autos have been sold right here in the United States and Toyota-made hybrids count for an incredible 65 percent of all gas-electric sales in the region.

So, who would Toyota like to thank most? It's loyal fans of course. Bob Carter, Group Vice President and General Manager of Toyota Division, notes, "All of us at Toyota would like to sincerely thank our customers, who have made Prius the best-selling hybrid in the industry."1

As excited as we at Lustine Toyota are to hear about the automaker's hybrid success, we're not surprised. That's because we've experienced what it's like to drive an innovative Toyota hybrid ourselves. If you'd like to do the same, feel free to swing by 14227 Jefferson Davis Hwy Woodbridge, VA 22191 at any point in time to test drive a Prius or any other new Toyota vehicle on our lot.
