2018 Toyota 4Runner vs 2018 Nissan Pathfinder near Prince William, VA

There is an incredible amount of SUVs on the market today making it hard to narrow down to the models that work best for you and your family. After serious research, we believe that there are a couple that rise above the rest including the 2018 Toyota 4Runner and the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder. The body on frame SUV is slowly becoming a thing of the past but thanks to the Toyota 4Runner it's not gone yet! This SUV is ready for every adventure both on and off the road. New updates for the 2018 model year include the addition of the TRD and Wilderness packages bringing in features like all-weather floor mats, roof-rack crossbars, 17-inch matte-gray off-roading wheels. The Nissan Pathfinder offers a comfortable cabin filled with family-friendly features from technology to safety and security. However, as the Pathfinder was massively updated in 2017 there aren't very many updates for this model year. The 2018 Toyota 4Runner is already off to a great start! Check out the rest of our comparison review to find which one of these SUVs come out on top!

2018 Toyota 4Runner Power & Handling

Toyota offers one powertrain option for the 2018 model year. Each 4Runner is powered by a 4.0-liter V6 engine that produces an incredible 278 pound-feet of torque and 270 horsepower. The EPA estimates that this engine can achieve up to 21 miles per gallon on the highway and 17 mpg in town with two-wheel drive. This engine comes paired to a five-speed automatic transmission. Toyota offers three drivetrain choices including two-wheel drive, part-time 4WD with Action Traction Control and full-time 4WD with a limited-slip and locking center differential that equally distributes power to the rear wheels. There is even more off-roading technology equipment available depending on the model/packages that you choose. Each model also comes equipped with underbody skid plates to protect the fuel tank, front suspension, and engine from strikes below. When it comes to towing the 4Runner maxes out at 5,000 pounds when properly equipped.

2018 Nissan Pathfinder Power & Handling

There is one engine option for the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder. Each model has a 3.5-liter V6 engine underneath the hood connected to a continuously variable automatic transmission. This engine delivers 259 pound-feet of torque and 284 horsepower. When it comes to fuel economy, the EPA estimates that this engine can reach up to 27 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg in the city with front-wheel drive. The 2018 Pathfinder can tow up to 6,000 pounds when properly equipped. All models come equipped with front-wheel drive as standard but you can upgrade to all-wheel drive on all trim levels.

2018 Toyota 4Runner Features & Design

The 2018 Toyota 4Runner provides drivers with an aggressive and rugged exterior style and all trim levels come with a roof rack as standard! Inside the cabin is versatile and roomy offering optional third-row seating and when you fold the rear seats down you gain a total of 90 cubic feet of cargo room! Toyota offers the 4Runner in a total of six trim levels: SR5, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, TRD Pro, and Limited. Standard features include satellite radio, a USB port, eight speakers, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, a 120-volt in the rear cargo space, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Further standard features consist of folding second-row seats with 40/20/40 split reclining, power adjustable front seats, keyless entry, 17-inch wheels, a power rear window, power liftgate, a rearview camera, fog lights, and skid plates. For more advanced features including off-roading equipment simply choose a higher trim level. Some of those features include dual-zone climate control, a sunroof, 20-inch wheels, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, TRD badging, navigation, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and more!

2018 Nissan Pathfinder Features & Design

The 2018 Nissan Pathfinder is a curvy and sleek SUV with room for up to seven passengers. Legroom is ample in both the first and second rows but most people will find the third row a tight squeeze. The Pathfinder is only available in four trim levels: S, SV, SL, and Platinum. Standard features consist of two USB ports, a six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, 18-inch aluminum wheels, a manual driver's seat, push-button ignition, a rearview camera, tri-zone climate control, and an 8-inch touchscreen display. For more advanced features you'll have to upgrade to a higher trim and an optional package or two. Some of those features include a power liftgate, leather upholstery, roof rails, navigation, automatic headlights, a Bose audio system, ventilated front seats, and a rear entertainment system.

The Pathfinder does offer a slightly more powerful engine and a few more standard features but it just can't compete with the 4Runner's overall style and off-roading capabilities. We love the 4Runner and everything it has to offer every passenger and how easily it adds adventure to your life. Plus with six trim levels, we know there is a perfect model for every type of driver!
