Drivers paying close attention will notice that the hybrid model has its emblem tinged a distinct blue hue and those seeing the 2018 version for the first time generally will notice its aggressive lines, lowered ride height, and a distinctive two-piece grille. How well does the hybrid powertrain work?

On the 2018 Hybrid, across models, there is a well-designed electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. That is paired with the combination of a 4-cylinder gasoline 2.5L engine with 176-hp & 163 lb-ft torque, an electric motor with 118-hp & 149 lb-ft torque, and a hybrid battery pack made of both Lithium-ion & Nickel-Metal Hydride. This powertrain combination amounts to a sum of 208 horsepower, Toyota states. Knowing that Camry enthusiasts will want a peppy drive there is a new SPORT mode in addition to the other modes (EV, Normal, Eco), which noticeably powers up the Camry Hybrid quickly (and also fittingly) to the driving situation. There is also a new Sequential Shiftmatic system which uses paddle shifters (Hybrid SE & up) to shift like a vehicle tuned for performance. Plus, the Hybrid system itself is more efficiently arranged under the hood, and the Hybrid battery pack is now lower than in prior year models, both of which results in more sporty and clear performance gains, due to the lower center of gravity and more even weight distribution. All of this results in exceptional fuel-economy numbers, which vary depending on model: a best-in-class EPA-estimated mpg of 51 city, 53 highway, & 52 combined on the LE model, and mpg's of 44 city, 47 highway, & 46 combined on either the SE or XLE.

Can you explain the cabin differences in the model lineup within the Hybrid version?

Certainly, there are differences, and owners will have the luxury of choosing the one most appropriate for them. An obvious one is that Cockpit Red interior is an option on the XSE model. Other cabin differences would include either a 4.2-in. TFT Multi-Information Display or a 10" color Head-Up Display (HUD), either fabric-trimmed heated front seats with seatback pockets or leather-trimmed multi-stage heated front seats, and either an embossed mesh or a Tiger Eye wood interior trim. What is good about the 2018 Camry Hybrid is that the cabin features are already at a high level across the board, and most of these choices only make things more desirable for you personally.

What are some of the intriging other features and design points?

Standard on the LE hybrid model are Bi-LED combination headlights with auto on/off, color-keyed outside mirrors, and an acoustic noise-reducing front windshield. The SE hybrid model one finds black 18" machined-finish alloy wheels and P235/45R18 tires, and dual chrome tips. The XLE hybrid model brings a bright metallic front grille, 18" chrome machined-finish alloy wheels and P235/45R18 tires, and LED taillights. An available Bird's Eye View Monitor utilizes 4 high-resolution cameras on all sides of the vehicle to assist the driver with a bird's eye view in real time. Some models can be equipped with the 'JBL with Clari-Fi' sound system, which has an amp and 9 speakers! New, extra use of ultra-high-tensile steel and new molding technology adds augmented structural rigidity, which translates to not only enhanced performance in driving but also stronger safety ratings.
