What kind of power and handling can I expect from the 2018 Highlander

Two engines are offered for the 2018 Toyota Highlander. Standard on the base LE trim is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder. Putting out 185 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, the four-cylinder is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. On all of the remaining trims, a more powerful 3.5-liter V6 is standard. With 295 horsepower and 263 pound-feet of torque, the V6 is mated to an eight-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is still standard, but all-wheel drive is available on all V6 models. With the V6, the Highlander also achieves an impressive fuel economy of up to 27 miles per gallon on the highway. In 2018, this model receives an "Ultra Low Emission Vehicle II" rating with either engine. The Highlander's drive is enhanced by power-assisted rack-and-pinion Electric Power Steering and an available sport-tuned independent MacPherson strut suspension and sport-tuned double-wishbone style multi-link rear suspension with front and rear stabilizer bars. Overall, the Highlander offers a smooth and dynamic drive, and impressive fuel economy for its class.

What trim levels and features are available for the Toyota Highlander?

In 2018, the Toyota Highlander is offered in six trim levels: The LE, LE Plus, XLE, SE, Limited and Limited Platinum. The LE comes standard with the four-cylinder engine, and has an impressive array of standard features. Among the LE's standard equipment is a 6.1-inch touchscreen interface, five USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, heated mirrors, a windshield wiper de-icer, a rearview camera, rear air conditioning, seating for eight, 60/40-split folding second and third-row seats, six-speaker audio and more. On all trims higher than the LE, the V6 engine becomes standard, and all-wheel drive becomes available. Moving on through higher trims, more luxurious options such as second-row captains chairs, full-leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, keyless entry and ignition, heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof and more become available. Additional tech such as a higher-resolution 8-inch touchscreen, a navigation system, 12-speaker audio, satellite and HD radio, smartphone app integration and more are also available on higher trims.

What safety and security features does the Highlander have to offer?

As a family-oriented vehicle, the Highlander puts the safety and security of all of its passengers above all else. Standard safety features on all 2018 Highlander models include the Toyota Safety Sense Bundle with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams and lane departure intervention; a rearview camera; and Toyota Star Safety System, which includes traction control, enhanced vehicle stability control, electronic brake force distribution, anti-lock brake system, brake assistance, and smart stop technology. An advanced airbag system, whiplash-injury lessening seats, and LATCH child seat anchors and tethers are also standard on all Highlander models. More advanced safety tech is available on higher trims, and includes a 360-degree camera and Safety Connect emergency assistance.

Final Thoughts on the 2018 Toyota Highlander

Why cram the whole family into a too-small vehicle, or sacrifice drivability for interior space? The Toyota Highlander offers ample room for seven or eight passengers within an easy-to-maneuver body AND with competitive fuel economy. Top that off with tons of standard and available features that everyone will enjoy and a comprehensive safety suite, and there's not much else you could ask for in a family vehicle.
