2018 Toyota RAV4 vs 2018 Ford Escape near Prince William, VA

Finding the perfect crossover SUV can be a difficult and challenging process, especially when trying to eliminate options, and find the SUV's that stand above the crowd. Two such options include the 2018 Toyota RAV4 and the 2018 Ford Escape. The RAV4 adds a few new things to the 2018 model, including an Adventure trim level. The Adventure trim includes access to a Cold Weather package, has sportier elements, adds a tow package, and raises the ground clearance by 0.4-inches. The Escape adds a new trim level, but they are dropping the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine on every model, except Titanium. Titanium is the top model offering, meaning this engine is well hidden at the top of the trim offerings. The RAV4 you know and love is here again, and already starts to outmatch the Escape that falls short with engine options and fuel economy.

2018 Toyota RAV4 Power & Handling

The engines that are offered with the RAV4 are impressive. The first engine is the 2.5-liter inline-4 that creates 176 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque. You can have this engine with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. This engine gets up to 29 mpg on the highway. The second engine is a hybrid option, a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine paired with an electric motor. The combined horsepower is 194, and the torque is 206 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes standard with all-wheel drive and gets up to 30 mpg highway. The non-hybrid engine comes with a six-speed automatic transmission, and the hybrid option comes with a CVT automatic transmission.

2018 Ford Escape Power & Handling

There are three engines that you can find with the Escape. However, there is a catch. Each engine pairs itself with a different trim level, making the options limited. All of these engines work with a six-speed automatic transmission. The base trim comes with the 2.5-liter inline-4 engine that generates 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. You can only find this engine with front-wheel drive. The SE and SE trim come with the turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4 that comes standard with FWD, although AWD is optional. This engine creates 179 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. The final engine only comes with the Titanium model, and is the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4, producing 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. Both FWD and AWD are available. As it can be noted, there is no hybrid engine option.

2018 Toyota RAV4 Features & Design

In order to maximize the amount of customization, the 2018 RAV4 comes in six different model options! The base model LE is packed with features, including Bluetooth, a rearview camera, an auxiliary audio jack, rear privacy glass, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, automatic high beams, one USB port, a 6.1-inch touchscreen interface, a six-speaker sound system, and a height-adjustable driver seat. The highest model, the Platinum, comes with a fancier exterior trim, the Entune Premium JBL Audio with Integrated Navigation, a heated steering wheel, front and rear parking sensors, an App Suite package, a hands-free liftgate, and a 360-degree parking camera.

2018 Ford Escape Features & Design

There are only four model options offered with the 2018 Ford Escape. The base trim S is bare-bones, not offering enough features to tempt most people. That is why many suggest buying at least the SE. The SE features dual-zone automatic climate control, an eight-way power-adjustable driver seat, upgraded cloth upholstery, satellite radio, and heated front seats. This trim also features many optional features, however, you'll have to add a package in order to unlock them. The highest option is the Titanium, adding heated and 10-way power-adjustable front seats, front and rear parking sensors, remote start, xenon headlights, a 10-speaker Sony audio system, and an auto-dimming mirror. The lack of features on the S trim bump the Escape down to 3 trims that you should be considering, which simply can't compare with the six trim levels of the RAV4.

The clear and decisive winner of the crossover SUV segment is the 2018 Toyota RAV4. This SUV not only comes with an impressive gasoline engine but a hybrid engine option! You'll also find six different model options, compared with the only four poorly equipped Ford Escape trim levels. If you're looking for more information on a Toyota RAV4, give us a call today!
