Toyota just debuted the all-new 2020 Highlander at the New York International Auto Show.

The Highlander has been redesigned from the ground up and offers a next-generation hybrid system, new safety features, and a new trim level. The gas powered 2020 Highlander is set to start arriving in dealership showrooms in December of 2019, while the Hybrid model is set to arrive in February of 2020.

For 2020 Toyota added a base L model followed by the LE, XLE, Limited, and Platinum. The Highlander L comes fully equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen, a 4.2-inch Multi-information Display in the instrument panel, 3-zone automatic climate control, privacy glass, LED headlamps and tail-lamps, along with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0. Toyota's comprehensive safety package includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, automatic high beams, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, and lane departure alert with steering assist. Building upon those features is the LE with blind-spot monitoring, a power lift-gate, LED fog lights, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift know. The XLE model adds roof rails, second row Captain's Chairs, power tilt and slide moonroof, heated front seats, auto dimming rear-view mirror, garage door opener, second-row sun shades, and a 7-inch Multi-information display. The Limited models comes with a JBL sound system, navigation, leather trimmed seats, hands-free power lift-gate, cargo area cover, heated and ventilated front seats, and wood interior trim. The top of the line Highlander Platinum adds a panoramic moonroof, rain-sensing windshield wipers, heated second-row seats, digital display rearview mirror, 12.3-inch touchscreen, and a head-up display.

While the interior of the 2020 Highlander has been improved to offer more creature comforts the exterior has also received improvements. The new design has improved aerodynamic efficiency while reducing wind noise and enhancing vehicle stability. For the largest amount of cargo space yet the 2020 Highlander is now 2.36 inches longer. The Highlander also received five new exterior colors including Moon Dust, Magnetic Grey Metallic, Ruby Flare Pearl, Opulent Amber, and Blueprint. Midnight Black Metallic, Celestial Silver Metallic, and Blizzard Pearl exterior colors all carrier over from last year's model.

When the 2020 Highlander finally arrives in showrooms this winter it will come with a 3.5-liter V6 engine. The V6 engine delivers impressive performance with 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. The engine is seamlessly with a Direct Shift 8-speed automatic transmission. An available towing package allows the V6 Highlander to tow up to 5,000 pounds.

As 2020 rolls around the Highlander will be available as a Hybrid. The next generation hybrid system uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors to be more efficient than ever before. The hybrid system has an EPA-estimated 35 combined mpg and 240 horsepower. The 2020 Highlander Hybrid will be available as either a two-wheel or all-wheel-drive.

Bigger, bolder, and more comfortable than ever before the all-new 2020 Highlander is an impressive three-row SUV we can't wait to get our hands on!
